Wild Wisdom, in Our Own Words: The FairWild Week 2026 Declaration

Yesterday, we introduced this year's FairWild Week theme: Wild Wisdom, the particular knowledge that makes responsible wild harvesting possible in the different landscapes around the world. Today, we're sharing how FairWild's certified partners have put that idea into words.

A declaration, not a generic pledge

Wild Wisdom is about specificity: the particular risks of a particular harvest, the particular people who depend on it, the particular rights and knowledge that belong to a particular community. So, this year's declaration says that directly:

The FairWild Week 2026 Declaration

"No two wild landscapes are the same. No two harvests carry the same risk, the same history, the same people.

Wild Wisdom is the knowledge of those particularities. This FairWild Week, FairWild certified partners come together not to say the same about every landscape, but to say that every landscape deserves to be known for its own legacy.

We, FairWild participants, know our wild landscapes, the species we harvest, the land it grows in, the season it demands. We take only what our own landscape can give back, measured against what that place can sustain, not a generic limit applied from elsewhere.

We carry the wisdom particular to our place, held by the people who have worked this land for generations and who guide how we harvest today. We treat our collectors as the specific people they are: paid fairly, kept safe, and respected in the form their own circumstances require, not a general policy applied at a distance. We honour the rights particular to each community, recognising customary knowledge and land as belonging to those who hold it, in whatever form their own tradition takes.

We commit to keep working with the FairWild family to keep the wild thriving."

What this means in practice

Every FairWild-certified partner works in a different landscape, with a different ingredient, under different conditions, but this declaration is the thread that ties that work together: specific resource assessments rather than blanket harvesting limits, fair terms built around a particular community's actual circumstances rather than a standard policy applied everywhere, and recognition of customary rights and knowledge in whatever form a community's own tradition holds them.
